Its a party political broadcast without any party and its NON party political (if you get our drift)
Malcolm said:
"Even Errol Flynn had to start his big screen career somewhere, and a Northampton debut never did him any harm"We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.......................
It makes a change for candidates making no absurdly inflated promises or simply rubbishing everything that has gone before.
ReplyDeleteWhips on a local council belong to a different era-just as years ago Independents were really Tory Wolves in sheep's clothing. At last we have genuine radical Independents who can speak and act on behalf of local communities!
Sounds like a cross between the early Labour Party and the Big Society!!
The ego has officially landed
ReplyDeleteNASA, you are entitled to your opinion, and on here as long as its not offensive or actionable we will publish it! If only the other parties were so open.
ReplyDeletePlus of course I undeniably have a good level of self actualisation, as does Malcolm, it comes from not having to be subservient to party officers!
Morning all - back from bank holiday basking in the sun waiting upon waiting for someone to knock on my door and ask for my vote. Alas they didnt so back to cyber-campaigns.
ReplyDeleteLittle harsh NASA I thought. Tony, once again you need to be careful with the comments that wipe away your history pre-NIV/Independent - you did spend some of (well most of) your time as an elected Labour politician following the wishes of the party officers. I recall many moons ago you yoursef were a whip on NBC?
Like the video - little over the top for a ward election and risky of you to use the Chamber for a political video and the use of Nimrod as a backing track? They use that at the cenotaph I think every year. When we commemorate people coming together, sometimes doing things they weren't sure of, for the greater good.....
Welcome back Independense and thanks for the balanced views.
ReplyDeleteYou are right I was a junior whip on the Borough Council in 1992 but they sacked me after 4 months after I voted against Labours plans to sell off Cliftonville Nurseries.
I guess that was my first real rebellion after joining the council in 1991. In balance I spent most of my time supporting policies that had been democraticaly built up and debated voted upon and then voting against anything which was imposed on us from the top or which would harm my constituents.
Its interesting where peoples musical hooks rest? My take on Nimrod was it always being played by Mining Community Brass Bands who had been devasted by Thatcher political destruction of their industry, For me it has a "proud of our heritage" type quality, but I appreciate it also has military overtones.
Anyhow, as said thanks for the comments
Bit of psephology this morning.
ReplyDeleteLast NBC Elections:
LD 40%
Con 32.4%
Lab 20.3%
Ind 3.8%
2010 General Elections:
Con 40.8%
Lab 25.4%
LD 19.4%
Ind 6.6%
Therefore with the Con/Lab/LD vote all over the place (clearly people vote differently at national elections) do you think Tony the Independent vote can continue its trajectory of doubling its % (3.8% to 6.6%) and would anything less mean it has had its high point?
IndepenDENSE you read my mind, I am just writing a piece on misleading figures used by parties to confuse the electorate.
ReplyDeleteLocal Elections are won ward by ward with few Independents standing so overall Borough Election totals and General Election totals are pointless. In Castle Ward for instance the last two Local Elections in 2007 and 2009 have come out as follows
2007 NBC Election
(largest vote from each party used for %)
Ind 32%
Lab 23%
Lib 22%
Con 13%
Grn 10%
2009 County Council Election
Ind 39%
Lab 22%
Con 19%
Grn 10%
Lib 9%
I hope that trajectory continues! and also that in Semilong and St James which were either wholly are half within the Castle Ward boundary at those elections that a similar result is achieved.
But the honest answer is that with the new boundaries and an inevitable rise in the Labour vote, coupled with an expected collapse of the Lib Dem vote then nobody really knows and anything can happen
All that's missing is the cribbage board. 'Suckling' and 'Noddy' are in place.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back STR your comments are up to your usual standard I see!
ReplyDeleteMaybe a little beyond your intellectual capacity, perhaps? I just wondered who's who though?
ReplyDeleteWant to vote Independent but you are not yet persuading me. Doing a tandem act isn't really convincing me of the Independent credentials you espouse.
STR something tells me that having visited the site and seen what we are about that if you not now convinced as to whether or not your a potential Independent voter then it might be difficult to convince you.
ReplyDeleteBut we are here to try, what would be interesting is to hear your views on the other candidates websites or blogs or videos or opinions, because
I for one am struggling to find them?
Exactly -- which gives you the finest opportunity to highlight to the fullest your aims and goals, which in my opinion you are not quite doing.
ReplyDeletee.g. You have only made slight and fleeting reference to Delapre Abbey and this now infamous mound called the 'bund'. I know that you mentioned contamination at the planning application renewal but no follow up. Why!
It is a scandal that was/is permitted to avoid thorough scrutiny. A major Park used to dump untested material, sourced from God only knows where for greed and greed only. Many palms were greased, of that there is no doubt but sadly that cannot be proved.
Why are the three 'amigos' (not) allowed to claim ownership of such a serious matter where planning conditions, years on, continue to be ignored?
SMT, together with the Independent candidate in Delapre and Briar Hill we have been highlighting the problems with the bund and meeting with those brave enough to give sign avadits which help to prove that the material is contaminated.
ReplyDeleteI have raised this a number of times in the chamber without so much as a whimper from either the labour or Tory opposition and outright denials from the Lib Dems.
But I will not be silenced. That is why the truth remains in print on this blog and whilst if we can more Independents elected we can force the Council to take action.
But let us be clear, the bund will have to be removed, and becuase the material in it has been questioned whoever moves it will have to test it. It will cost a small fortune. So the Council can either A) foot the bill themselves (which I don't support) or B) Do their job properly and make the polluter pay.
This issue will not go away and it is Independent candidates and Cllrs who have continued to raise the issue and keep the Council in hot water as to how they deal with it.
Again I ask what do the Lib Dems or Labour or the Tories say about the bund on their web sites or blogs? and can you make a comment?
Testing the soil from the gate to the edge of the golf course is a complete waste of time, there is nothing in there of any consequence. All the contaminated materials are dumped into the 1000's of cubic metres of 'stuff' in the driving range and under many 1000's of cubic metres along the line of the rookery. Because there was so much attention brought to bare on the activity of Thomas Haulage well into the operation, great care was taken to make sure the section of the bund, (from the gate to the golf course which was only an afterthought)) had nothing much contained within it.
ReplyDeleteThe driving range was being filled for months before the people of Far Cotton, cottoned on (bad pun) but the Liberal Democrat ward representative was always informed. That area has thousands of cubic metres which were neither quantified or examined by anyone. Load tickets were rarely, if ever produced by Thomas Haulage to verify tonnage. There were no inspectors on site qualified to determine where loads originated or if they were of suitable content.
Many photos are held that have still not been disclosed which show tarmacadam and other contaminates being buried in huge volumes.
It's all very well to say that pressure continues to be applied but if you don't know where to pin point come the day, then it is a fool's errand you are on, is it not? The prospective Independent Councillor for the area was not really interested early on because he had a vested interest ie (a snug little number). He was never and is not now in possession of the full facts. While his intentions now may be admirable, they have the hint of sour grapes about them. Or axe to grind perhaps?
I may yet open your eyes.
Should read, 'So much attention brought to bear'. 1st paragraph.
ReplyDeleteSMT I am very happy to work with you to taise the temprature if you wish.
ReplyDeleteI would be particularly interested in those photes!!
tony.clarke@ntfc.tv or tony.clarke@email.com
Me thinks 'smell the roses' knows far too much about the bunding.
ReplyDeleteIf it is such a big issue and important enough to raise in the Chamber so many times, I presume that the main parties will get an incredibly small amount of votes in that area and Graham Walker (standing again!) will romp home.
If not, could I suggest there are more pressing issues in the area?
Graham Walker (standing again!)?
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time he has ever stood!
And its not our fault that despite raising it in the chamber that the Lib Dem Council lose their nerve and green condentials when it comes to taking on the polluter!
I think it is staggering that the Council haven't acted so far, chickens will eventually come home to roost on this one I guarentee it
IndepenDENSE - There are many and varied issues of concern in the area, of that you are wholly correct and I'm also sure that at this moment and time many of those issues are indeed far more urgently in need of attention. However, you cannot sit back and allow one of the greatest scandals to have been foisted upon the people of the area and the Town to just drift away as if it never happened.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that your sources didn't make you aware that Graham 'Shirty' Walker is indeed a newcomer and has not stood previously for election.
Imagine, even you make mistakes. There's hope for us all.

ReplyDeleteOkay, it might just be me; but I have a sneaky suspision (speeling again) that Smell the Roses could be a Lib Dem supporter... it's the bund and the "shirty" comment that lead me to this thought... I could of course be wrong!
ReplyDeleteBut anyways, I love the video.
It is (I guess) something done in a lighthearted way to lighten this political mood.
And like I said after the debate, it works Tony.
Welcome back IndepenDENSE; hope you had a good time.
Miss A. Nobody
ReplyDeleteLike most of your Liberal Democrat 'bundies' - you are so far wide of the mark and obviously living in a world of your own! But what's new? Most of what you write here is akin to the majority of Lib Dem seats after May 5th --VACANT.
Not for all the tea in etc.
Have a wonderful day in front of the telly with your tissues and chocolates.
Oh please, you really are behind with the "news" Smell the Roses...
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I didn't watch the wedding. It isn't my "thing" I am not knocking whoever wanted to watch it; I just didn't want to. I have far more important things to do with my time... and no; not delivering!
My Lib Dem "bundies?" They aren't my anything. Have you not been keeping up with events? No? Well, none of what any of them do is anything to do with me.
They will believe what they want, say what they want and do what they want. I am only responsible for me and my own actions, they are responsible for themselves.
Personally, I'd want to know more about the "bund" before I acted upon it. All I know is various stuff Tony has told me, and bless him; that's just his view.
With regard to the election this Thursday, all I will tell you (and you can quote me on this) someone will win; someone will lose and the people of this town will still be saying the same thing in 5 years time!
Oh, and one last thing ~ I hate chocolate with a passion!
4 years.
ReplyDeleteSame difference Smell the Roses, smae difference.
ReplyDeleteYou must be a Lib Dem if you split hairs so much!
Mind you though, my thoughts might be more because you failed to answer the question/comment the first time round.
Anyways, doesn't really matter at the end of the day does it? You'll believe what you wish, you'll attack who you like; that's the beauty of freedom of speech isn't it? Saying (within reason) what you like.
If you are standing, good luck. I hope you a: get in. and b: are different that all the "others."
If not, enjoy your moment; if it is what pleases you.
Just showed Mum this video, she's smiling ~ it's a first for any politician to make her laugh, well done you!
