TIME FOR NEW BLOOD?

John Dickies call in todays Chronicle and Echo for "The Old Guard" at the Town Hall to stand aside to let new talent shine through reminded me so much of this video below, and if I can't succeed as an independent then perhaps this bright and upcoming young lady has a chance of changing the political landscape?

I must say her speech is more far more radical and inspiring than anything you will get from the Party Leaders at the Town Hall over the next 4 years!!

    John Dickies weekly rant finishes up "perhaps we should be looking for councillors to represent their communities not their parties".
    Maybe its time for action groups like SOS to come together with indys to form a Northampton First Party, or whatever name, but untainted by association with the 3 political parties.
    Ensure that those who stand have the calibre & integrity to do the job properly, instead of party hacks who jump when the whip says jump and pick up their scabby allowance for doing sweet nothing.

    I saw John Dickies article.....reminded me of a) his passion for independents instead of party 'hacks' when he was Leader of the Council and b)how he let the 'new talent' shine through when he was Leader at the Town Hall.

    A little bit of consistency wouldn't go a miss from our Elder Statesmen.

    Firstly-less of the rant!That was a contribution to the debate about the future of local government and will continue to explore alternatives in the future.
    Secondly 'Long Memory' in politics consistency isn't a virtue,learning from past mistakes however is, and trying to look for alternatives seems a sensible approach.
    LM may,or may not know, that after stepping down as a councillor I went on to Warwick to do a Masters in Public Administration.I did it to try and understand where I had been for the previous 30 years and what lessons could be drawn.I wanted to codify the experiences into something coherent.
    Truth was of course that the course was really all about administration and as such was important for managerial aspirations but hadn't really enough space for the political.
    But mixing with managers from here and the US for three years did make a number of things very clear.
    The most important being that politicians need to learn how to deal with the full time local government civil service!
    The last four years has seen NBC run by its senior officers.If councillors are to do anything they must not buy into this'we're all in this together' nonsense and must learn strategies quickly.
    The MPA was potentially the best way forward,but hardly any elected members have bothered with it,and so all the real strategic thinking has been left to the Sir Humphrey's, councillors have become supernumerary social workers!

    Sorry Guys, despite me having a no unnecasary censorship policy, it seems that Blogger having been down for a day has wiped recent comments off of everyones blogs!

    Where did they go? why are they not in my comments box? and why couldn't they restore them?

    Perhaps its time I went over to wordpress?

    It's a good site, but it takes a bit to get used to the fact it isn't blogspot.
    Plus you could end up getting problems wherever you go!

    I just said "aww, how sweet." And that I was glad you still have your sense of humour!
